COVID-19 ~ Nursing Studies ~ Keep Going!

Classes Suspended, Learning Continued — Studying in a New Era!

Changing from face-to-face teaching to online learning is a new mode of study brought about by COVID-19. During the pandemic every school replaced its usual physical classes with online lessons. Even nursing programmes, which place such emphasis on clinical practice, were no exception, and this created particular difficulties for nursing students — especially those in the junior years, who during the pandemic could not attend hands-on laboratory classes such as learning to give injections and to dispense medication, and who were also unable to go to hospitals for clinical placements, so it was truly not easy for them to grasp the knowledge of nursing skills. As teachers, in order to help our nursing students gain the learning they needed during this period and to avoid holding back the progress of the curriculum, we all actively learned how to provide online lessons to students effectively and worked closely and actively with our colleagues in the computer department to adopt online education suited to our students, for example how to use Zoom teaching effectively; at the beginning most of us knew very little about it.

Cultivating an Interest in Learning and Promoting Self-directed Learning

After more than a year of learning at a distance, it is very important to keep students deeply interested in the nursing curriculum. Online classes can remove the danger of spreading the virus, but from the point of view of learning, online study still prevents many students from maintaining a consistent level of concentration, and compared with physical classes their results are relatively less satisfactory. Therefore, even though classes are held online, teaching still needs enough interaction with students: teachers need to keep encouraging them to unmute the microphone and speak up and ask questions, and we also use other teaching apps that increase interaction so as to make the lessons more enjoyable and to strengthen students' self-directed learning.

Nursing Studies — Persevere and Never Give Up!

The COVID-19 pandemic has now eased somewhat, and nursing students are back on campus for classes. How thankful we are! Nursing is a field of study that must constantly keep pace with the times. Students, let us persevere together and keep going together!
