To All Our Dear Members and Friends
Dear Members and Friends,
Greetings to you all! For the Hong Kong College of Gerontology Nursing, and indeed for the whole of Hong Kong, 2021 — like 2020 — has been a year full of challenges! I am delighted to tell you that, with the generous support of our many members and fellows, the College's 2021 Annual General Meeting was held very successfully on the evening of 24 September this year. I would especially like to thank the nearly 40 fellows and members who attended the Annual General Meeting online or in person that day; thanks to their wholehearted support, this year's Annual General Meeting was brought to a successful conclusion!
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage in Hong Kong, all kinds of activities of the College have gone into a state of hibernation; only the various “elderly care courses” co-organised with the Hong Kong Academy of Gerontology continue, in the form of online teaching. The College is now planning to hold an online sharing session in early 2022 on the theme “COVID-19 and the New Challenges in Gerontological Nursing”. Fellows and members of the College are asked to pay close attention to publicity about the session and the date on which it will be held!
I would also like to take this opportunity to express my heartfelt gratitude and my highest respect to all the fellows and members of the College for the tireless and selfless professional nursing work they have carried out over the past year in Hong Kong's public and private hospitals, the Department of Health and elderly care organisations in the fight against COVID-19!
Looking ahead to this winter, I think the members of the College will need to continue encouraging older people living in residential care homes, and those attending follow-up appointments at specialist outpatient clinics in public hospitals, to receive the COVID-19 vaccination, and may also need to provide services for older people or healthcare staff who require a third dose ... “The battle against COVID-19 is not yet won; comrades, we must still work hard!”
It is my heartfelt hope that the College's 2022 Annual General Meeting will be like those of several years ago, with everyone coming in person to the hotel where it is held, sharing professional experience in elderly care among peers, gathering together in great numbers, chatting about everyday matters and asking after one another's health. See you then!
